Server Returns "HTTP 404 - File Not Found"

When opening the Web service's HTML description or pages, or invoking a method with a web browser, an "HTTP 404 - File not found" message appears.

DISCUSSION

This error condition can often be solved by manually repairing the Web service installation: open the properties of the Web service virtual directory in Internet Information Services (IIS) and make sure that the Execute Permissions for the directory are set to allow scripts to be run (i.e. "Scripts only" or "Scripts and Executables").
