The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved today, resulting in the two new countries of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (which also become part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands) and Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba being integrated into the Netherlands as "special municipalities". Curaçao and Sint Maarten are set to adopt a new common currency in 2012, to be named the Caribbean guilder. Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba are set to adopt the US dollar as their legal tender on January 1, 2011.

Following a major update on the web servers of the data provider, the clist_en.txt table, which lists the currencies available for FXCSV queries, went missing. We have been informed that the file is set to be restored by Monday, December 7, 2009. In the meantime, FXCSV/Currency Server customers who are receiving a "The requested item could not be found" error can either change provider from the FX Feeds tab, or edit oc.ini in the Filters directory of the Currency Server installation, and replace "http://www.oanda.com/site/help/clist_en.txt" with "http://rates-cs.currencysystem.com/rates-cs/clist_en.txt" (temporary solution only).

The Treaty of Lisbon entered into force today, and with it the euro became the official currency of the European Union. In practice, this means that it is now formally correct to refer to the currency as the "EU euro" in drop-down menus and similar contexts, just as one would do for the "US dollar" and other currencies.

A new version of the popular Currency Converter gadget was released today. New features include an "Update Now" menu item to manually force an update of exchange rates, and a "Start with 1" menu option, to use the tool to quickly view rates, rather than to perform calculator-like conversions. The menu selection areas and the displayed update time and date now provide better feedback, and the number of clicks required to use the gadget has been reduced.

The new currency code ZWL was assigned to the recently redenominated Zimbabwe dollar. 1 ZWL = 1,000,000,000,000 ZWR. As the previous codes ZWN and ZWR failed to replace the ZWD in practice, it is possible that the ZWL will also encounter some resistance in its adoption. The Central Bank of Turkmenistan redenominated the Turkmen manat currency, replacing the old TMM currency and code with the new TMT, which is worth 5,000 TMM. The new Turkmen manat uses two decimal digits, like the previous one. The old currency is scheduled to cease to be legal tender on December 31st, 2009. The European Central Bank moved the default data accessed by the European Central Bank HTML filter from http://www.ecb.int/home/eurofxref.htm to http://www.ecb.int/stats/eurofxref/eurofxref-xml.html. If you were using the European Central Bank filter with the old HTML (not XML) address you will need to update the address (just enter the new address in the Address field). No action is required if Currency Server was set to fetch the rates from Cloanto (which is the default setting), or if any Data Source other than the European Central Bank in HTML mode is used.

Functionality to update the list of euro currencies as the EMU evolves (adding currencies, replacing currencies with the euro, etc.) is now active.

Following a decision by the Turkish government to float its currency, the Turkish lira (TRL) is experiencing unusual daily fluctuations. Customers using the Currency Server software with the default settings are receiving fluctuation warnings. Given the confirmed circumstances such a message is normal, and indicates that your system is working properly. If the fluctuation severity options were set to Error in the Monitoring options, the update needs to be approved manually, as per instructions in the error message.

Version 2.2 of the calculator software released. Fixed a bug in the Options... property sheet which could cause a minor memory leak upon program exit. In the currency-enabled versions a condition was solved whereby a RAS-related error message could appeared even if dial-up functionality was not required, and code was brought up-to-date with new Currency Server features.

Version 1.0 of the calculator software released (distributed as Euro Calculator). Other than an HP calculator emulator supporting skins which we know of, we believe this to be the first skinnable calculator. Our first contacts with Skinz.org (our reference site for 1998-1999) pre-dated the release of any other calculator on that site.
